It takes a mixture of nerve and cheek to take over this hallowed page
to talk about just one record. If I tell you that record is the new
album by John Stewart, you will begin to understand. If I go on to
tell you that album is being released on our own label, then you will realise
just how much nerve and cheek we do have.....but that is exactly what we
are doing.
By we, I mean Kingsley Grimble, Rod Wilson and me, Peter O'Brien, and our own label is now registered at Companies House under the evocative name, SUNSTORM RECORDS. This first album release is the record John talks about in Molly Swan's interview elsewhere. Having tried to interest established UK record companies and drawn a blank, I approached John with the outrageous proposition that we should form a company and put it out ourselves. He agreed and, to cut along story short, while this is being typed the sleeves are being printed and the tapes are at the pressing plant prior to being turned into vinyl. "TRANCAS" is the title of the album, the catalogue number is Sunstorm SSAD-01, your local record store can order it through our distributors, Stage One who are at 2 Kings Road, Haslemere, Surrey - Tel : 0428 4001. We will also be selling it to you direct by mail order from Sunstorm Records, 10 Lesley Court, Harcourt Road, Wallington, Surrey SM6 8AZ. Send a cheque for £5-00, Payable to Sunstorm Records, and we shall do the rest. On the album you will find nine brand new John Stewart songs, plus an oldfavourite from Felice and Boudleaux Bryant. Here they are: Side One: It Ain't the Gold/ Reasons toRise / Pilots in Blue/ Chasing Down theRain / 'Till the Lights Come Home SideTwo: Bringing Down the Moon / All the Lights/ Rocky Top / AmericanWay/ The Chosen As if all this were not enough, John told me he was coming to Europe this summer as he didn't want to be in Los Angeles while the Olympic Games were on. In that case, would he like me to try to arrange some gigs during this "holiday"? The short answer was yes. Many weeks and dozens of phone calls later along with the essential help of John Atkins and Lynda Morrison, this is what we've come up with..... That's it so far. I'm still trying for some other venues - Cardiff and Brighton are two possibilities. If you write to any of the above, do enclose a sae for your reply. If you want to talk to me about John's tour or the new album, call me during the evening on 0l-647 5491 and I'll do my best for you. I'm very concerned that both ventures should be successful so do give them your support. Success should ensure more albums and a rapid return visit by John, not forgetting CHUCK McDERMOTT who will be playing and singing with John on all these dates. Couldyou ask for more!?! |
