Jenny At The Wheel

Written by John Stewart

"Jenny At The Wheel" is from the "Secret Tapes ´86" cassette, Homecoming Records, 1986, CD reissue by Neon Dreams, 2002, titled "Secret Tapes CD" - together with "Secret Tapes II" (also a Homecoming cassette, 1987).  The song is also on "A Night at Jimmy Duke´s - Johnny and the Nasty Britches" (the gentlemen with the naughty legwear being bass player Dave "Dave" Batti and drummer Dennis "The D-Man" Kenmore), Neon Dreams, 2002.

One of those hypnotic Johnny Stew songs, good words, good melody.  I like it right well.
Playing hint – if the Bm follows the D too fast for your fingers, just play a D with a B-bass note.  Sounds good, too.

In (Em)Chicago the wind blows (D)cold on the (Bm)skin

Of (C)school girls waiting for a (B)sign,

(Em) Someday the fun, the (D)California (Bm)sun,

Will (C)call from the end of the (B) long yellow line.

And she (Em)calls on her friends and a (D) few someday (Bm)men,

(C) She is going for a (B)ride.

(Em) Illinois rain will (D)never be the (Bm)same,

For (C)Jenny is getting out a(B)live.

(E)Jenny at the wheel, she looks (B)hard for the way,

(A)Oh, to the (B)land of the (E)sun. (B)

(E)Jenny at the wheel and the (B)far distant star,

That, (A)oh, she be(B)lieves is the (E)one.

New (Em)Mexico fell in an a(D)dobe mo(Bm)tel

With (C)JC working on her (B)car,

And she (Em)fell for his line she has (D)heard many (Bm)times

From (C)boys about to go too (B)far.

She is (Em)driving again with no (D)money to (Bm)spend

And a (C)card that shows her daddy's (B)name,

She be(Em)lieves any day that they'll (D)show her the (Bm)way

To the (C)bright blazing sun of the (B)Playa Del Rey.

(E)Jenny at the wheel, she looks (B)hard for the way,

(A)Oh, to the (B7)land of the (E)sun. (B)

(E)Jenny at the wheel, and the (B)far distant star.

That, (A)oh, she be(B7)lieves is the (E)one. (B)

(E)Jenny at the wheel, she looks (B)hard for the way,

(A)Oh, to the (B7)land of the (E)sun. (B)

(E)Jenny at the wheel, and the (B)far distant star,

That, (A)yeah, she be(B)lieves is the (E)one.

(whispered) Jenny at the (Em)wheel, (D) (Bm) (C)  (B)

Jenny at the (Em)wheel, (D) (Bm) (C)  (B)

Jenny at the (Em)wheel, (D) (Bm) (C)  (B)

Jenny at the (Em)wheel, (D) (Bm) (C)  (B)

Jenny at the (Em)wheel.
