Spirit

Written by John Stewart

‘Spirit’ is on the fantastic “Cannons in the Rain” album, RCA, 1973, re-issued together with the “Wingless Angels” album - also originally on RCA, 1975 – as a single CD by Bear Family Records in 1990.  The song is also on the compilation double CD “Gold”, Wrasse Records, 2000 – identical version.  A somewhat changed ‘Spirit’ is on “The Last Campaign”, Homecoming, 1985, re-released as a CD by NEC, 1985 – new title “American Hero”.  The identical Laser Light CD

that´s part of the “American Journey” 3 CD boxed set (1996) again bears the title “The Last Campaign”.

This is one of the best songs.  I think I know what you may be waiting for – one of the best songs on “Cannons in the Rain”, one of the best John Stewart songs.

True, right both times.  But that´s not what I meant.  I meant to say THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST SONGS I KNOW.  PERIOD.  I LOVE THIS SONG.  IT IS TRULY BEAUTIFUL.

Play only the "fingered" notes on this chord when you pick.  And go for that fabulous bass line.
