Seven Angels

Written by John Stewart

"Seven Angels" is from the "Secret Tapes II" cassette, Homecoming, 1987, CD reissue by Neon Dreams, 2002, titled "Secret Tapes CD" - together with "Secret Tapes '86" (also a Homecoming cassette).

Once again one of those hypnotic Stewart songs.

Art writes: There is an alternate version on Neon Beach where JS mixes the verses differently but it is essentially the same musically.

Oh (Am)raging with the light, the morning comes to (Em)slay the night alone,

Oh (Am)raging with the light, the morning comes to (Em)slay the night alone,

Slay the night a(Am)lone.

(Em)Something caught my eye,

'Cause I (Am)thought I saw the Seven Angels (Em)blazing in the sky,

Oh, I (Am)thought I saw the Seven Angels (Em)blazing in the sky,

Coming out (Am)of the sky, (Em)

Coming out (Am)of the sky. (Em)

And (Am)if it all was only water, (Em)we would be the rain,

(Am)You can see your sons and daughters (Em)flourishing the cane,

And (Am)as we have been (G)here before, (F)we will come again. (hold)

If it all was (Am)water,(Em) we are (Am)the rain, (Em)

We (Am)are the rain, (Em) oh, we (Am)are the (Em)rain.

(Am)  (Em)  (Am)  (Em)

Oh (Am)raging with the light, the morning comes to (Em)slay the night alone,

Oh (Am)raging with the light, the morning comes to (Em)slay the night alone,

Slay the night a(Am)lone.

(Em)Something caught my eye,

'Cause I (Am)thought I saw the Seven Angels (Em)blazing in the sky,

Oh, I (Am)thought I saw the Seven Angels (Em)blazing in the sky,

Coming out (Am)of the sky, (Em)

Coming out (Am)of the sky. (Em)

(Am)  (Em)  (Am)  (Em)

And (Am)if it was a desert island, (Em)we would be the sand,

(Am)Can you tell the difference in the (Em)woman and the man?

Oh, (Am)there is only (G)one of us but (F)we have many hands. (hold)

If it all was an (Am)island,(Em) we are (Am)the sand, (Em)

Then we (Am)are the sand, (Em) we (Am)are the (Em)rain.

(Am)Raging with the light, the morning comes to (Em)slay the night alone,

Oh (Am)raging with the light, the morning comes to (Em)slay the night alone,

Slay the night a(Am)lone.

(Em)Something caught my eye,

And I (Am)thought I saw the Seven Angels (Em)blazing in the sky,

Oh, I (Am)thought I saw the Seven Angels (Em)blazing in the sky,

Coming out (Am)of the sky, (Em)

Coming out (Am)of the sky. (Em)

'Cause I (Am)thought I saw the Seven Angels, (Em)

(Am) If I saw the Seven Angels, (Em)

(Am) If I saw the Seven Angels, (Em)

'Cause (Am)if I saw the Seven Angels, (Em)

'Cause (Am)if I saw the Seven Angels, (Em)yeah…(Am)
